Josh is an Oscar-shortlisted producer & director from Baltimore, and a member of the Documentary Producers Alliance. True/False called him “a distinct and exciting voice in nonfiction cinema,” and BFI’s Sight & Sound called his first documentary “in some ways the perfect distilled True/False film.”
His work has premiered at Sundance, Slamdance, True/False, New/Next, SXSW, TIFF and Hot Docs; been supported by Sandbox Films, Sundance Institute, ITVS, The New York Times, Wholphin and Dazed & Confused; and screened in documentary courses at UCLA, Dartmouth College, Vassar College and The New School.
Most recently, his debut feature The Legend of MexMan was released on blu-ray by Vinegar Syndrome & Dekanalog, after a festival run that included the first New/Next in Baltimore. For fans of American Movie or Sherman’s March.
While making The Legend, Josh lead produced a pair of vérité feature docs: One Road to Quartzsite (dir. Ryan Maxey), jury winner for best feature at Big Sky DocFest, “like if Harmony Korine and Fred Wiseman got broke down behind a gas station for 2 years,” watchable here; and Motel Drive (dir. Brendan Geraghty) following one family in Fresno over a decade, releasing in 2026.
In 2018, My Dead Dad’s Porno Tapes (dir. Charlie Tyrell) premiered at Sundance, won at SXSW, became a New York Times Op-Doc, and was shortlisted for an Academy Award.
Josh produced the Duplass Brothers’ indie-animated series Animals., which premiered at Sundance 2015 and sold for 2 seasons to HBO; Manson Family Vacation (dir. J. Davis) which premiered at SXSW and sold to Netflix; and Only the Young (dirs. Elizabeth Mims, Jason Tippet) which won at AFI Fest and Cinema Eye Honors and sold to Oscilloscope Laboratories.
