Week 5: January 25-31, 2010

This was intended as a Night-Themed week, but life intervened. My night-subject for Saturday fell through, and then a non night-related milestone presented itself on Sunday:

Mon – my roommate Spencer and I chasing one incredible sunset

Tues – some spontaneous Laverne and Shirley with some passing strangers, most of them social workers, conducting a ‘homeless count’ for the city of Santa Monica

Wed – proud to say that i am that ‘new friend from Venice Beach.’ KXLU, the greatest little radio station in the land, was kind enough to play my favorite song of the moment, ‘Red Letter Day’ by Viva Voce.

Thurs, 1/28 – watch this in a dark room and you’ll catch a hint of the ‘halo’ i saw, bright and huge around the moon, formed by ice crystals in cirrus clouds

Fri - ‘who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men…?’

Sat – my turreted house in Venice on a nice weekend afternoon

Sun, 1/31 – CELEBRATING!: the completion of Adam Greenberg’s first month of Tonight’s Watercolor, a ‘nightly art blog and new year’s resolution.’ 30 paintings down, 330-some to go. join the Facebook group here. (feat. ‘Milking’ by Deerhoof)

Week 4: January 18-24, 2010

Starting Tuesday, this was one rainy week. So I used some rain-themed songs to set the mood:

Mon – Meet Batman. Aka Chris Shaw, of Nick’s Window Tinting in Santa Monica. An amazing man. And part of a documentary I’ve just started shooting, about LA’s car culture. Stay tuned.

Tues – it felt like we entered an 11th dimension of sorts, with today’s biblical downpour (in LA of all places) – feat. “11th Dimension” by Julian Casablancas

Wed – just like raindrops, you feel so good on the Mad Hatter’s lips – feat. “Raindrops” by Basement Jaxx

Thurs – the view from the Fresh Princess of Santa Monica’s pool house – feat. “Flood Victim” by Pavement, off one of the greatest and most punctuationally complex album titles of all time, “Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain: L.A.’s Desert Origins (After The Glow [Where Eagles Dare])”

Fri – my crack at a movie montage moment – feat. “Famous Blue Raincoat” off Leonard Cohen’s “Songs of Love and Hate”

Sat – an unusual pet, off Lincoln Blvd in Venice – feat. “Make It Rain” by Tom Waits

Sun – look what grew with just 5 days of rain! – feat. “Here’s That Rainy Day” by Joe Pass

Success!

With the help of this online tutorial, I figured out a much better way to encode HD for upload.

Huge thanks to Ed McNichol for making it.

I’ve reposted Week #3 now, and the difference is huge.

Huge Thanks

To Mr. Jay Duplass for allowing VOTD to upgrade to high-def.

My job now is to get better at compressing and uploading in HD, so it plays as crisply as the actual footage is.

And your job is to go see Fox Searchlight’s CYRUS (starring John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill, Marisa Tomei, and Catherine Keener), when it comes out later this year. Trailer here.
